Before founding Oaken Injury Law, Ian served as the managing attorney for a prominent firm that grew into one of the largest injury practices in the nation. Over the course of his career, Ian has personally counseled more than 20,000 injured people concerning their legal rights after serious accidents. That experience taught Ian what injury victims need the most: clear answers, direct attorney access, and a lawyer who knows what details matter.

Ian’s call to the legal profession is deeply personal. After his father suffered a tragic injury that ultimately took his life, Ian saw firsthand how quickly a serious injury can leave a family overwhelmed and searching for answers. It was this tragedy that helped shape his commitment to guiding injured people and their families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Early in his career, Ian developed his legal skills handling defense cases within the employer and corporate insurance systems. This background gave him invaluable insight into how insurance companies minimize claims for their benefit. Over time, he came to fundamentally disagree with the defense-side approach and chose to follow his original mission: helping everyday people.

Ian knows how to identify key issues and build the strongest possible foundation for his clients’ cases. He understands how large, high-volume firms operate and where they often fail to provide clients direct attorney attention, clear communication, and strategic guidance at critical moments.

Ian co-founded Oaken Injury Law to take a more focused, client-centered approach to personal injury representation. Together with his partner, Matthew Bradley, Ian built the firm around direct attorney access, disciplined preparation, and strategic representation from the beginning of every case.

Matthew brings a disciplined, strategic approach to personal injury law shaped by years of service in high-stakes environments. He earned his commission as an officer in the United States Army, where he served as a psychological operations officer and chemical weapons officer, roles requiring sound judgment, adaptability, and precise decision-making under pressure.

Matthew’s military experience influences his approach to the practice of law, emphasizing preparation, accountability, and execution in critical moments.

After completing his military service, Matthew began his legal career at one of the largest civil defense firms in the country, where he was retained by insurance companies to defend complex matters. As a trial attorney, he litigated cases through verdict, developing a strong foundation in case strategy, claim evaluation, and courtroom advocacy.

Over time, Matthew recognized that the same strategies used to defend claims could be applied to better protect injury victims. He transitioned his practice to representing plaintiffs, where he refined his approach to case preparation, client advocacy, and trial strategy.

Drawing on his experience on both sides of litigation, Matthew approaches each case with a clear understanding of how claims are evaluated and where challenges are likely to arise. His focus is on building cases that are thoroughly prepared, strategically positioned, and ready for trial when necessary.

Matthew co-founded Oaken Injury Law with his partner, Ian McTaggart, to provide a more focused, client-centered approach, emphasizing direct attorney access, clear communication, and disciplined, strategic representation from the beginning of every case. He is committed to ensuring that every client is taken seriously, fully prepared, and strategically positioned for success.
